UIL Trade Union (Rome Department)
UNIONE ITALIANA DEL LAVORO UIL di Roma e del LazioUIL organization of Rome and Lazio region, established in 1950, is working on the regional territory through 70 representatives' offices (5 provincial offices and 65 area offices). In year 2006, its associated members were 169.616, subdivided into 20 professional categories.
The operating field concerned all the activities aimed to safeguard the rights and the expectations of workingwomen and of workers in general living this territory; they also tried to define the national trade union politics with the participation to Directive Body of UIL Confederation. Beyond these activities, UIL Organization of Rome and region Lazio has developed a wide net of services to which all citizens and immigrated workers may address. The services concern legal aid, fiscal and social security, safeguard of the tenants and their rights, protection of the consumers, protection and orientation for working women and immigrated workers.
In consideration of the "Convention on the Future of Europe" on the theme of job, a meeting has been organized in Rome on May 2002, titled "For a Participated and Shared European Constitution", with the possibility of training and information for UIL management. Particular attention has been given to the theme of health and safety in the workplace. From October 28 to October 30, 2006, UIL Organization of Rome and region Lazio took part to the program of the European Agency about the safety and health in the workplace and organized various manifestations involving workers, employers' organizations, local institutions, public bodies operating in this sector, and some schools of Rome and Latina dealing with the problem of safety in their programs.
Also the trade union representatives of CC.00 in Madrid, CFDT in Paris, CGTP in Lisbon, EKA in Athens and LO North-East in Stockholm took part to this event. An agreement of collaboration has been signed between UIL organization of Rome and Region Lazio and the European trade union partners about the themes that have been discussed with an exchange of experiences and common working activities. At the moment, there is the possibility to promote a twinning between schools of different countries with the aim to involve students, which are the workforce of the future.
